Our Ultrasound

I was waiting to do this ultrasound post because I had wanted to wait until we had heard back from the Dr.  We had our 20 week apt with him this past Friday, so here's the scoop!

First off, we had the most awesome ultrasound technician!  She was such a hoot.  She is currently prego with her 3rd baby and what fun to be pregnant and an ultrasound technician!  So this woman has spent LOTS of time ultrasounding herself which made her an expert to us.

We got to sit and watch the baby for about an hour.  And there were times in the ultrasound that the technician got just the best views of this baby an we would just sit and admire.  The room was silent besides a few "awws" here and there from one of the three of us.  (Three: Matt, Me, Tech)  We got such a great view of the baby's face!  It didn't look all skeletony or alien looking... we could see the actual baby!  (We were all too busy watching that we didn't get any pictures.)

We could see the baby's eyes opening and closing, looking from side to side.

We could see the baby opening and closing it's mouth and swallowing.

We could see the baby take a breath here and there.

And best part... we got to see the baby yawn!!

I didn't know the babies did all of that!!  I was totally in awe.  Yes we had an ultrasound of Makenzie, but we had an intern doing it and just didn't get the footage that we got with this one.  It was JUST incredible.  Matt and I walked out of there just happy.  Right down to the core.  Babies are incredible!

I hadn't been feeling good that day and when the tech started doing the ultrasound it got a bit uncomfy for me.  And she told me I was having Braxton Hicks!  Did you know you could see that on the ultrasound!?!?  Crazy.  And Crazy to see what it does to the baby.  There is a pic posted below.

At our 20 week Dr's apt he said that the baby's growth is right on track.  (With Makenzie they gave us another due date that was about 16 days earlier.)  Again, the baby is measuring on the above average side (thank you Matthew) and the head is in the 80% (MATTHEW!!!!).  Maybe by time the baby is born the head's growth will average out??  Here's hoping!

We DO have to go back for another ultrasound in a few weeks.  They found 3 cyst on the baby's brain... we were told that this is very normal and most babies get it but it's just not caught on the ultrasound.  The scoop with that is the fluid that is in your brain doubles and triples so quickly that these cyst are formed.  Once the fluid evens out the cyst go away.  So at 24 weeks we will check to see if they are still there... if they are we want them to be smaller.  Then we will check again at 28 weeks and hope they are gone.  So, wait and see.  The Doctor said not to lose a wink of sleep over this!

Okay!  So we won't.  We are hoping at 24 weeks the cyst are gone and are very excited to see the baby again.  In fact next ultrasound we will bring Makenzie with!
